Raymond Harold Bowman “Bud,” age 86, served in World War II in U.S.M.C. Born in Marion, N.C., he was a former resident of Jonesborough, Tenn.

Raymond graduated from Lamar High School, Class of 1943. Raymond enjoyed writing commentary to local newspapers. He loved John Wayne and Gene Autry. He loved his Cherokee area. He was instrumental in Washington County for the improvements of Cherokee Grade School intersection traffic pattern issues.

“Bud” was an All American WWII Marine serving Pacific combat duty, from a long ancestral line of patriots who served, including North Carolina Fox Family Heroes in the American Revolutionary War. He was a descendent of Bowman, Fox – NC, Cordell, Cornett, NC, TN.

He was the Beloved father of Wanda, Robert, Gloria and Bill and stepsons Gene and John Stokes. Beloved son of William M. Bowman and Mary C. Bowman. Beloved brother of Faye M. Bowman. Beloved grandfather of Kelsey, Jordan, Dylan and Meredith. Beloved husband and friend of Elizabeth Rodifer. Beloved relative friend and neighbor of Cherry Grove.

Visitation will be October 27, 2011, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, 418 W College Street, Jonesborough, Tenn. (423)-753-3821. The funeral will be October 28, 2011, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, Tenn.
