Richard Harlow Street, 74, Hampton Tennessee passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, at his home, following an illness of three years.

He was a native of Carter County and was the son of the late Robert and Sally Lou Wheeler Street. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister Vera Lee Glover.

Richard attended Sally Cove Creek Community Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Hampton High School. He served in the U.S. Army (1961-1963) and retired from the Elizabethton Electric System after 35 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years Lula Belle Smith Street who was also his faithful caregiver. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kristi Street; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jan and Greg Back, and Jill Street and her friend Thomas Tester, all of Hampton. Eight Grandchildren: Jacob, Landen and Weston Street, Beth and Jude Hickman, Nicholas and Vanessa Kennedy, and a soon to be baby girl Tester. One brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Sandra Street; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joyce Senesi and Robert and Wayne Jones; two sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law: Beulah Aldridge, Shirley and Terry Whitehead, Tip Smith, Jack and Edna Smith, and Russ Hodges. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Richard Street will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in the Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Smith and Rev. Shane Waters officiating. Music will be provided by a CD of gospel hymns performed by his wife Lula Belle Smith Street. These are the hymns that Lula Belle sung to Richard daily that seemed to give him peace and help him rest.

Graveside Service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers who are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. to go to the graveside service will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Honeycutt, Ronald Street, Donnie Chambers, Harold Chambers, Glen Cates, Hampton High Class of 1956, and Employees of the Elizabethton Electric System. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service and at the residence. Family and friends who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the James H. Quillen Community Living Center,The Quillen Rehab, Hermitage Health Care Center and Amedisys Hospice Care and all family and friends who have helped in any way with the care of Richard, our husband, father and grandfather. He was dearly loved by all of us.
