Robert M. “Bob” Hopson, age 78, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013 from his residence. He was a member of Unaka Baptist Church and was the son of the late Tommy and Mary Hopson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Billy Joe Hopson. He was a journalist for the Elizabethton Star and was also a radio announcer for WBEJ Radio for many years and was a sports writer for the Johnson City Press. Mr. Hopson was a United States Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Hopson, of the home; one son, Wayne, Elizabethton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa and William Percell, Elizabethton and Sharon Corbett, North Carolina; one sister, Margaret Hammitt; one brother, Harold Hopson and wife Joyce, Garner, NC; also surviving are two stepsons, Fred Mottern and Michael Mottern and wife Mitzi, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Courtney Percell, Darren Percell, Daryl Percell, Kaitlin Corbett, and Madison Blackmon; and a special friend, Bryson Street, who knew him as “Papaw Bob.” Several nieces and nephews also survive, along with his pet companions, Bubba and Cody. The funeral service for Mr. Hopson will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Walker Robertson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Wednesday; or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Gary Arnold, Dewey Percell, Sam Hopson, Jimmy Eggers, Richard Lewis, and Daryl Percell. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 PM on Thursday, to go in procession.
