Robert Lee Goodwin, 62, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012, unexpectedly.
A native of Farmville, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Austin & Evadne Grindstaff Goodwin. He had lived in Elizabethton since 1951. He was a 1967 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He also attended Elizabethton Business College.
Lee served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was employed as a farmer, Cattleman and Real Estate Developer. He was a member of the Carter County Cattleman Association and certified as a Master Beef Producer. He was a member and inactive Deacon of Lynn Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Judy Johnson Goodwin; Two Daughters & Sons-in-Law, Julie & Richard Hale, Elizabethton, and Rachel & Brock Pittman, Richmond, Virginia; Two Grandchildren: Robert Luther “Luke†Hale and Meadow Leann Pittman; Three Brothers & Sisters-in-Law: James Franklin & Karen Goodwin, David Allen & Francis Goodwin, all of Elizabethton, and John Austin & Couliette Goodwin, Chilhowie, Virginia; A Sister & brother-in-law: Jean & Alfred Hester, Kingsport; Several Nieces & Nephews.
A Service to Celebrate the Life Of Robert Lee Goodwin will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday January 14, 2012, in the Lynn Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Wilson and Rev. James Hawk officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by William J. Greene, Soloist, and Norine Allen, Organist. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 1:50 p.m. Saturday, will be: Austin Goodwin, John T. Goodwin, Jimmy Goodwin, Alan Leonard, Spencer Leonard, Stacy Street, David Bass, Ken Barrickman, Bill Gentry, Tommy Campbell, Rick Arnold and Micky Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Street, J. Harold Ray, Herman Hodge, Larry Peters, Dr. Frank Anderson, Bill Crawford, Raymond Carter, Melvin Estep, Lowell Garrison, Kenneth Swift, Chris Wilson, Keith Hart, Dave Holtsclaw, friends at Buladean Grocery, friends of the Stoney Creek Community and his church family. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon Saturday until the service hour at the church. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter & son-in-law: Julie & Richard Hale, Elizabethton.
