Robert W. Ramsey

image Mr. Robert W. Ramsey, 82, of Johnson City went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 18, 2010.

Born in Tusculum, he was the son of the late Raymond Rutledge and Mary White Ramsey.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Mr. Ramsey worked as a purchasing agent in the manufacturing industry for several years.

He attended Mtn. View Baptist Church and was previously a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. At these churches he served as usher, building and grounds, finance and on short mission trips. Bob loved his family, Sunday school class, fishing, seafood, quartet music, gardening and teasing his grandchildren.

Mr. Ramsey was a member of the American Legion. He was Safety Officer and Board member for the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brother-in-laws: Paul Bible and Bud Byerly.

Mr. Ramsey is survived by his wife of fifty five years: Williane Law Ramsey; children: Teresa Gouge and husband, Tony, Susan Owens and husband, Steve, Bobby Ramsey and wife, Cathy, Carol Jones and husband, David; grandchildren: Robert Bayless, Alyssa and Claire Owens, Mary, Noah, Joseph, Benjamin and Sara Ramsey, Ashlee Jones; sisters: Margaret Bible, Alexandria, VA, Mildred Byerly, Afton, TN; brother: Bill Ramsey and wife, Nancy, Wilmington, DE; nieces and nephews: Rita, Michael, Diane, Nancy Beth; special nephew: Stanley and wife, Billie; special neighbors and friends: Tommy and Anne Causey, Conley Jones, members of Mtn. View Baptist Church especially Scottie Green’s Sunday School class.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Tetrick Funeral Services with Brother Jim Cambron officiating. Music will be provided by Mountain View choral members under direction of Tammy Coffman.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until time of the service.

A Committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park with full military honors. Pallbearers will be West Carter County V.F.D. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Causey, Dewain Hayes, Claude Luttrell, Hoot Gibson, E.B. Tolliver, T.J. Sparks, Jerry Johnson, Glen Bolden, Paul Comstock, John Wilson and Phil Maupin. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Frank Johnson and Scott Renfro.
