Robert Woodrow Smalling

image Robert Woodrow Smalling, 94, of Smalling Road, Watauga, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, December 18, 2010, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late David Robert and Melinda Jane Carver Smalling. He was a retired maintenance engineer with the Carter County Memorial Hospital and was a farmer. He was a member of the Carter County Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Brick Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Alma Kneble, Edna Range and Bertha Little; and by one brother, Lloyd Smalling.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Whitehead Smalling, Appalachian Christian Village, Johnson City; one son, Robert “Doug” Smalling, Watauga; two daughters, Glenda L. Wilson, Watauga, and Linda Annie McCormick, Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren, Holly J. Davis, Elizabethton, and Daniel David Wilson, Watauga; one sister, Mary Woods, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Robert Woodrow Smalling will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, December 19, 2010, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. Don Marshall, Minister, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Glenda L. Wilson, 441 Smalling Road, Watauga, at anytime.

The committal and entombment service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 20, 2010, in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the mausoleum Monday at 1:50 P.M. for the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends, neighbors and his Church family.
