Mrs. Rose M. Welch, age 98, began singing in the Heavenly choir on Friday, August 23, 2013.  Our angel is finally at rest with her precious Jesus and family.  She was met at the crossing by all her loved ones who preceded her to Glory, and has been reunited with her soul mate Gordon Welch, Sr. and a beloved son, Tyler Welch.  She passed away at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.  She was a native of Elizabethton.  Mrs. Welch was the oldest living member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Elizabethton where she was active in the children’s programs for many years.  She also worked with Gertrude Hale, Watauga Association Southern Baptist Missionary.  She traveled throughout the state and locally for many years learning and helping in any way she could.  Mrs. Welch was a member of the W.M.U. at Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and after her children were grown earned accreditation from the University of Florida Dietician School.  She worked at Carter County Memorial Hospital as their dietician.

Mrs. Welch was the daughter of the late Arthur Ruble “Buck” Little and Lena Madge Mae Hatcher.  She was the wife of the late Gordon K. Welch, Sr.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Elmer “Tyler” Welch, and eight brothers and sisters, William Clarence Little, Nanny J. Little Renfro, Mary Myrtle Belle Little Carver, Cora Lee Little, Emmert Paul Little, Chester Tilman Little, Harry Eugene Little and Therman Monroe Little.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Gordon K. “Spanky” Welch, Jr. and wife Margaret, Elizabethton; three daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” Wylie and husband Dr. Jim Wylie, Atlanta, GA; Brenda Hartnett and husband Bob, Atlanta, GA and Cathy Jane Aaron and husband Al, of the home; a daughter-in-law, Jane Welch, Johnson City; a brother, Emory Lewis “Jack” Little, Elizabethton; a loyal step-daughter, Shannon Frazier and her loyal grand dog, “Boomer.  Twenty special grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Rose M. Welch will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Monday, August 26, 2013 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. John Perkins, Sr. and Rev. James Lindsay officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 – 5:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted in Happy Valley Memorial Park next to her husband at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 27, 2013.  Active pallbearers will be Berdell Little, Greg Bowers, Ed Wylie, Sam Wylie, Gordon Kenneth “Kenny” Welch, III, Jeff Welch, Philip Myers, Brian Taylor, Steven Collins, Todd Welch, Patrick Hartnett, Mike Hartnett, Gordon K. Welch, IV and Gordon K. Welch, V.  Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 9:15 A.M. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to give a special “thank you” to Dr. David Fenner, Dr. Robert Walter, Dr. Claire Parris, Dr. Shweta Kharalkar, Dr. Makrum Jurdi, Dr. Dergio Diaz and all of the wonderful nurses on the third floor and the Intensive Care Unit of Sycamore Shoals Hospital.  The family also sends gratitude for all the prayers, well wishes and love expressed for their mother and expresses love to special friends, Ralph and Mazel Garner, Jerry and Sharon Barnett, Harold Lingerfelt and Randy, Theresa and Joey Cole.  In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Building Fund of Immanuel Baptist Church, 205 Hunter Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in memory of Mrs. Welch.
