Roy Laverne “Toby” Julian Sr., 72, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 28, 2013. Toby was born and raised in Elizabethton, TN, and the son of the late Roy O. and Beatrice Miller Julian. He was in the US Army, a Veteran of the Korean War and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member and Deacon of West Side Christian Church, where he was a faithful worker, using his talent for serving the Lord by being active in the church. He had a love for music and enjoyed singing in the choir with his church family. Toby was a joyful, happy Christian man who was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Brother. He always had a smile and helping hand for everyone he met. Not only did he have love for his family and youth of the church, but also all the children and his wife, Loretta ,came in contact with through operating Julian’s Learn & Fun Daycare for approximately 20 years. He is survived by his wife Loretta, of 52 years; two sons: Roy Laverne Julian Jr., Marcus Julian and wife, Shalaina; five daughters: Kelly Peterson and husband, Tim, Tina Oler, Chrissy Woods and husband, Tony, Tracy Julian and Beth Ann Henley; twelve grandchildren: Jerry Oler, Lindsay Belanger and husband, Phil, Jon Grindstaff, Nathan, Alexis and Annie Woods, McKenzi, Zak and Corbin Peterson, Gabe Henley, Jaylen and Jacob Julian; two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Emma Belanger; two brothers: Gary and Dean Julian; five sisters: Charlotte Grillas, Jo Trent, Peggy Lohman, Portia Pearson and Dot Grindstaff; numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws. A Service to Celebrate the life of Toby Julian will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at West Side Christian Church conducted by Greg Key, Minister, and Patrick Chellah. Receiving of Friends will be from 11 AM-1 PM at the church and the funeral following thereafter. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music provided by Beth Ann Henley, Toby’s daughter, the church choir and Larry Jeffers, nephew of Toby. Pallbearers include sons-in-law, grandsons, Wes Pearson and Alan Grindstaff, both nephews of Toby. Honorary Pallbearers are the Elders and Deacons of West Side Christian Church. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Julian to the West Side Christian Church, 1307 West G Street, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643.
