Ruby Allen Vines Stokes, 92, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Pine Oaks Assisted Living Community.
She was the daughter of the late John Pleasant and Viola Ann Nora Hodge Vines and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Orville Perry “O.P.†Stokes; three sisters, Anna Mae Lyons; Bonnell Estep; Mary Rose Hambrick; two brothers, Glen Vines and Roy Vines, and a nephew, Terry Lyons. Mrs. Stokes was retired from Klopman Mills in Johnson City. She attended Johnson City Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Bill Vines, Harmon, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Stokes will be conducted on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Rex Johnson and Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff officiating. Music will be under the direction of Nathan Salyer, Bridgett Simpson and Jason Thompson. Friends may call at the funeral home between 5:00 -6:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John Vines, Robbie Lyons, David Wayne Frazier, David Frazier, Scotty Lyons, Earnest Garland and David Ashmore. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Vines and Jess Curtis. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
