Ruby Lyons Carver passed away peacefully in her home in New Orleans at age 95 on Thursday, January 5, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis R. Carver; her son, Bobby C. Carver; two infant sons, Billy and Jimmy Carver; and four sisters.
Survivors include son Jack Carver of Atlanta; daughter Judy and husband Paul Schmollinger of New Orleans; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Carver of Kingsport. Grandchildren include Tara and husband Greg Peters of Kingsport, Robert Carver and wife Diane of New Orleans, Aprel Carver of Grey and Angela Carver of Atlanta. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Ryan Peters of Kingsport; a sister, Susie Winebarger of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carver spent most of the first 93 years of her life as a resident of Elizabethton. She enjoyed a deep fellowship at East River Park Christian Church in Elizabethton where she was the oldest member for many years.
Ruby Lyons Carver was a very strong, open-minded and independent woman who had a generous spirit. Her love, faith, intellect, humor and belief in hard work will be her legacy. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends in Tennessee and Louisiana and by her beloved cat Joey.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at East River Park Christian Church in Elizabethton in the spring.
