Samuel Carl “Sammy” Humphrey, 71, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, in the Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City.

He was a Carter County native. Sammy was a 1959 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a Master Barber graduating from the Barber College in Jacksonville, Florida. He retired from Inland Container. Sammy was a member of the Christian Church.

His hobbies were collecting knives, NASCAR Racing, Flower Gardening, Cooking, loved to talk and loved to ride his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl G. Humphrey, September 29, 1991; and by a brother: Earl Humphrey.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Betsy Arney Humphrey; His Mother: Tina Morton Humphrey, Elizabethton; Three Sisters & Brothers-in-Law: Linda & Rowe Carr, Kay & Johnny McGee and Karen & Terry Tester, all of Elizabethton; His Sister-in-Law: Johnnie Humphrey, Colonial Heights, Virginia; Several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler, Minister, officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Mr. Elmer Sams Jr., Soloist. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be: Jim McKinney, Ken Arney, Gene Sams, Mike McKinney, Gerry Miller, Benny Buck, Jimmy Lee Carr, John Carl Humphrey, Jeremy McGee, J.L. Blackwell, Luther Morton, Jeff Humphrey and Jack Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Chris B. Hemphill, Dr. Phil Jones, Roy Nidiffer, the Staff of ICU Franklin Woods Community Hospital, the 1959 graduating Class, Happy Valley High School and his many friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
