Shelby K. Collins, of Piney Flats, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a 1955 Graduate of Elizabethton High School.
Shelby will be remembered as a special, caring and giving person. She loved to entertain and cook for her family and friends. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, interior decorating, playing the piano and traveling.
She worked for Sherwood Chevrolet, Watauga Chevrolet, Bunton Chevrolet and Rodgers Cadillac. She ended her work career as a Casualty Insurance Adjuster with Appalachian Claims Service of Johnson City and Knoxville.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Johnson City, where she sang in the JOY Choir and served on the Hospitality and Kitchen Committees.
Shelby was the daughter of Fred & Cleo Kilpatrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, Fred Kilpatrick, Jr. and Geneva Mae Kilpatrick; and one grandson, Blair Burchfield, of Johnson City.
Survivors are her loving husband, James C. (Jim) Collins, of Piney Flats, two daughters and their husbands: Lori & Edward Haines, Lisa & David White, of Johnson City; one son and his wife: Rodney & Melissa Emmert, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; one step-son and his wife: David & Leslie Collins, of Greer, SC; and one step-daughter: Sharon Miller of Johnson City.
Her precious grandchildren are: LeAnn & Will Vinson, Jordan Haines, Sarah & Evan White, all of Johnson City, Dalton & Brooklin Emmert, of Mt. Juliet, TN, Caleb & Hailey Collins, of Greer, SC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 7 p.m. in Central Baptist Church of Johnson City with Dr. Ron Murray officiating. Music will be by the JOY Choir, Jim Bowman and Debbie Odom.
Graveside Service and Interment will be on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton.
The family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the funeral service. Pall Bearers will be Jeff Richards, Ted Hughes, Warren Torbett, Jordan Haines, Evan White, Leonard Peters and C. Vaughn Leslie. Honorary Pall Bearers will be members of the Dr. Ted Beach Sunday School Class, the Esther Sunday School Class, the members of the Elizabethton High School Class of 1955, OFES of Johnson City, Jill Gage, Barbara Reedy, Bobby & Elaine Emmert, Bob & Helen Byrd, JoAnn & Ed Marley, Hilda Collins, Barbara Hundley, Pat Byrd, Bob & Anna Sue Britt, Fred & Ann Dotson, Leonard & Jean Peters and Hasferd & Jean Slemp. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.
