Sidney Dale Gilbert, 60, of Roan Mountain, unexpectedly passed away on July 31, 2011, at his home. He was the son of the late Wilford and Dora Hopson Gilbert and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Gilbert.
Sidney is survived by his wife, Brenda Jane Mosley Gilbert, of the home; two beautiful daughters, April Bliss Gilbert and Lindsey Marie Gilbert, his very special grandson, Bentley Morgan Gilbert, and his grand-dog, Mercy, all of Roan Mountain; three sisters, Janet Hopson Anderson and her husband, Doug, Linda Gerhing and her husband, John, and Dixie Holt and her husband, Morton; and a brother, Roby Hopson and his wife, Pat.
The funeral service for Mr. Gilbert will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4, at St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain with Rev. Jim Storie and Rev. Richard Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, and at the home at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 5, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Doug Barnett, Chris Barnett, Mike Shelton, Jeremy Brown, Rudolf Campbell, Morton Holt, Robbie Mosley and Doug Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bloss Barnett, Norman Simerly, Bob Palmer, Willie Shell, Jim Halliwell, Scott Odom and his many special friends at the Flea Market. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
