Mr. Sidney M. Goddard, 60, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Joseph E. and Virgil M. Rutledge Goddard and was born in Sullivan County, TN.
Mr. Goddard was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended Tusculum College. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired draftsman. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilson Goddard, of the home; a step-daughter, Heather Davidson, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, James “J.Bâ€. Guinn II, and Brianna K. Goins, both of Elizabethton; a brother, Dexter Goddard and his wife, Carolyn, Kingsport; a sister, Jennifer Goddard, Kingsport; two nephews, Robert Goddard, Joseph Goddard, Kingsport; and a special step-aunt, Martha Allen, Kingsport. Several other aunts and uncles also survive.
The family will receive friends at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton on Thursday, January 27, 2011, from 5:00-7:00 PM and at the residence at other times.
The graveside service for Mr. Goddard will be conducted on Friday, January 28, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 PM Friday. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elizabethton/Carter County Emergency Rescue Squad.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Fresenius and DaVita Dialysis Center, Amediys Home Health Care, the doctors and nurses of the 5th floor at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital; his caregivers, Susan Woodby and Shelia Burchette.
