ELIZABETHTON — Thomas Ray “Tom†Grindstaff, 64, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Donald James and Frieda Nell Anderson Grindstaff. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was a Construction Worker. Tom was a former employee of Summer-Taylor and North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Tom was an Elizabethton Twin Fan and loved to fish. He was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife: Gail Tipton Grindstaff; A Daughter & Son-In-Law: Patricia & Richard Aldrich, Elizabethton; The pride of his life, his Granddaughter: Jeanna Aldrich; A Sister & Brother-in-law: Patsy & Steve Sorrell, Elizabethton; A Brother & Sister-in-law: Benny & Sandy Grindstaff, Elizabethton; Two Nephews: Benny and Daniel Grindstaff; and just like a brother, Harold Matherly.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Joe Sorah and Rev. Adam Polk officiating.
Entombment Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Mr. Elmer Sams. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, will be: Albert Oliver, Willie Church. Benny Grindstaff, Daniel Grindstaff, Boyd Smith, Joe Collins, Mark Collins, Wayne Tipton, Shy Tipton, Steve Unbewust and Harvey Norris. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Steve Sorrell, Dean Pearce, I.G. Osborne, Brigadier General Isaac Osborne, Jack Tipton, Wendell Williams, Harold Matherly, Johnny Scruggs, Eddy Lipps, and the Men’s Sunday School Class, Calvary Baptist Church.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You†to the Carter County Rescue Squad, The Staff of the Emergency Room, Sycamore Shoals Hospital and the 2600 Wing of the Johnson City Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
