Velmer M. Rock, 84, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday January 17, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Clarence & Blanche Smith Rock. Mr. Rock retired after 50 years of service at North American Rayon Corporation as a Mechanic in the Power House.

He was a member, former Choir Director and former Deacon of Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Rock loved music, loved to work in his yard and work on lawn mowers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Velmer Rock Jr.; a brother: Howard Rock; and a sister: Ruby Williams.

Velmer and Mary would have been married 65 years, January 18, 2012.

Survivors include his wife: Mary Davis Rock; Two Sisters: Linda Elliott and husband, Richard, Johnson City, and Alma Oller, Jacksonville, Florida; A Brother & Sister-in-Law: Earl & Ann Rock, Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews; A Brother-In-Law: Bill Davis, Hampton.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Troy Davis and Rev. Sherrel Nave officiating.

Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Mary Roberts. Active Pallbearers will be: Ritchie Elliott, Brad Holly, Barry Holly, David Rock, Gary Shipley, John Whitehead, Richard Elliott and Jordan Holly.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the service hour at 2 p.m. Saturday. Friends may also call at the residence.
