Virgie Lovelace Taylor, 89, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Tennessee and Mollie Hardin Lovelace. Mrs. Taylor retired after 39 years of service as a nursing assistant at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. She loved to crochet and quilt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Eugene H. Bowers Sr., Rothy Byrd and Robert “Red” Taylor; two brothers, Arnold and Jack Lovelace; and a sister, Hazel Plemons. Survivors include a daughter, Shelby Heaton and husband James, Elizabethton; two sons, Raymond Carl Bowers and Eugene “Frosty” Bowers and wife Ruby, all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mrs. Taylor will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. Music will be provided by Doyce Sheffield. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, will be Eugene Bowers, Raymond Bowers, James Heaton, David Bowers, Doyce Sheffield, John Adkins and Floyd Heaton. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff and employees of Life Care Center and the staff of Caris Health Care. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home Tuesday morning until noon. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
