Virgie E. Smith, 91, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter, Robin Hill, whom she made her home with and raised, following an extended illness.
She was born in Avery County, NC, and a former resident of Elizabethton before moving to Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Herby and Ethel Parlier Crawford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Hambrick; and a great grandson, Tommy Tuten.
Mrs. Smith was retired from the dietary department of the Veterans Administration, Mountain Home, TN.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Robin Hill and husband, Jeff, Johnson City; and daughters; Shirley Bowers and husband, Dairus, Elizabethton, Linda Broyles, Mississippi, and Helen Puryear, Knoxville. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews survive.
The graveside service for Mrs. Smith will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Robert Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of her granddaughter Robin Hill, Johnson City, at anytime. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 PM on Thursday, to go in procession.
