Virginia B. Hayes, 79, died on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at her home. Born in Carter County, she had resided in Jonesborough most of her life before moving to Kingsport in the late 1970s. She and her husband, Jim, were owner/operators of Jim’s Motorcycle Sales of Kingsport. Virginia had been the church organist/pianist for Skyline Heights Baptist Church for many years and at Fort Robinson Baptist Church, where she was a member. She loved her music, gardening and cooking. Virginia was a good person, a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and best friend, husband, James P. “Jim” Hayes Jr.; daughter, Cheryl L. Hayes; and parents, Ralph and Maudene Baird. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Phillips and husband, Mayor Dennis Phillips, of Kingsport; son, James P. “Jay” Hayes III, of Kingsport; two grandchildren, James William Phillips, of Kingsport, and Evan Phillip Hayes, of Kingsport; sister, Dorothy Baird Carpenter, of Johnson City; and two brothers-in-law, Thomas Hayes and wife, Paula, of Bristol, TN, and Kenneth Hayes and wife, Wilma, of Elizabethton, TN. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Fort Robinson Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Dustin Allman and Larry Crawford officiating. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN. Those planning to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be Thomas Hayes, Kirk Hayes, Steve LaHair, Chris Thomas, Tommy Harvel and Butch Adkins.
