Willene Slagle, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Tisha Scalf Buckles.
Mrs. Slagle was of the Holiness faith and was a homemaker. She enjoyed puzzles and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Slagle, in 1973; a brother, Leonard Buckles; and a sister, Edna Custard.
Survivors include three daughters, including twin daughters, Phyllis Slagle and Judy Slagle, both of Elizabethton, and Barbara Dugger and husband, Lester, Elizabethton; a son, Joseph Slagle and wife, Pansy, Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bruce Buckles, Elizabethton; two sisters, Betty Crumley and Irene Potter, both of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Tommy Stines, Elizabethton.
The funeral service for Mrs. Slagle will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 3, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jerry Davis officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 1 p.m. Friday, prior to the service hour. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from grandsons.
