William “Billy” Forbes, 80, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, October 26, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his devoted family. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Milburn Forbes Sr. and Florence Anna Oxendine Forbes. He retired from Inland Container after 37 years of service. Billy was an avid fisherman and spent many hours devoted to Christian Mission Works. He attended the House of Prayer and took an active part in Bible Study and Sunday School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jack M. Forbes and brother-in-law: George Blankenship, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 39 years: Dorothy “Dot” Guinn Forbes; A Son: Teddy Forbes, Concord, North Carolina; A Daughter: Nancy Monreal and her husband: Larry Campbell (his fishing buddy), of Jonesborough; One Granddaughter: Angelica Monreal; A Great Granddaughter: Christina Monreal, San Antonio, Texas; Two Sisters: JoAnn Blankenship, Johnson City, and Edith Delp and her husband, Ray, Panama City Beach, Florida; Three Brothers: Roy Forbes, Elizabethton, Wesley Forbes, Cookeville, Tenn., and Duane Forbes and Wife, Loretta, Elizabethton; His Sister-in-Law: Mary Forbes, Elizabethton; One Aunt and Several Uncles; 8 Nieces & 7 nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Simerly officiating. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Lyons Chapel Trio. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be: Wesley Forbes, John Forbes, George Blankenship, Eddie Forbes, Roger Odom and Roby Fritts. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Sam Harrison, Ronnie Kent, Jonathan Kent, Arvil McKinney, Larry McKinney, Jimmy Anderson, Harry Vines and his church family. To those who prefer memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Forbes to the donor’s favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
