William E. Burkhart, 75, 410 West G Street, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of St. Charles, Virginia, he was a son of the late Willie E. and Gladys Wells Burkhart. He had lived in Elizabethton since 1977.
He was retired from the United States Army where he received to rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He served in the Vietnam Era. He was a recipient of the Silver Star , Two Bronze Stars and a Gold Cluster. Mr. Burkhart also retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as an Admissions Clerk.
He was an active member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, where he served in the Bus Ministry and also as a Usher.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Anna Gibson Burkhart; Two Sons & Daughters-in-Law: Tommy Lynn and Sandra Burkhart and William Kenneth and Claudia Burkhart, all of Elizabethton; Eight Grandchildren: Brittney, Taylor, Rachel, Brandon, Logan, Nate, Tristan and Ian; One Great Grandson: Bentley; One Brother: Walter G. Burkhart, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, with Pastor Mark Fowler officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday January 19, 2013, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday will be: Johnny M. Burleson, Ricky Burleson, Brandon, Logan and Taylor Burkhart, Carl Gibson and Johnny L. Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Burleson, Pastor Bobby Stout and Men of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
