William E. “Gene†Teel, 65, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Alexandria, Va., he was a son of the late Louie Lee and Katherine Virginia Gray Teel. Gene had lived in Carter County for a number of years. He was a construction worker and truck driver. Gene served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was a Disabled American Veteran. He served as a volunteer at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jones Teel; two daughters, Katherine Rebecca Teel and Jeanette Yvonne Teel, both of Virginia; four sons, Robert Dietmar Teel and wife Loretta, Kingston, N.Y., Michael Eugene Teel of Virginia, Jesse Arthur Teel and Chris Logan Teel, both of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; a brother, Robert Lee Teel, Manassas, Va.; a sister, Carolyn Ann Stockton, Springfield, Va.; two uncles, James Gray and Wayne Gray; an aunt, Doris Hall; a niece, Tracy Barney; and a nephew, Bill Stockton.
Funeral services for Mr. Teel will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:50 p.m. Monday, will be David VanDyke, Bill Stockton, Robert Teel, Douglas Hall, Larry Lancaster, Shannon Peters, Rick Oliver and David Shields. The family would like to express a special “Thank You†to the ICU 2600 Wing and the 7400 Wing of Johnson City Medical Center. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the Tennessee National Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
