William Harry “Bill” Stitt, 86, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012, in the CLC of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

A native of Kingsport, he was a son of the late Thomas W. and Nora Jones Stitt. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired Electrician. He had lived in Washington, D.C., for thirty years.

Bill was well known in the area for telling a “3 legged Pig” joke. He occasionally attended Memorial Presbyterian Church with his children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Catherine Waldrop Stitt, June 13, 2007; his brothers: Paul, Ralph and Pete Stitt; his sisters: Bess Whittamore, Ruth Lane, Blanche Broome, Helen Cooper and Vivian Hudson; and most recently his brother-in-law, Harry Mizelle.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Teresa & Andrew Perkins, Elizabethton; Two Sisters: Judy Sams and husband, Steve, Halifax, Virginia and Shirley Golec, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Six Grandchildren; Seven Great Grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews & cousins; also, Betty Jane, Janet & Carol Mizelle, beloved sister-in-law and nieces.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Basham officiating.

Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Maurice Whittamore, Jim Lane, Ken Cooper, Kyle Cooper, Joe Stitt, Mike Stitt, Don Whittamore, Ralph Cole, Steve Sams and David Sams.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of the CLC Center and C Ground and ICU of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for all their excellent care.

Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
