William R. Oliver

William “Bill” Roosevelt Oliver, 75, of Shamrock Village Avenue, Connelly Springs, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2010, at Wake Forrest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. He was born June 15, 1935 in Sullivan County, Tenn., to the late William V. Oliver and Vergie Berry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edna Mae Reece Oliver, and a son, Glen Oliver. Mr. Oliver was of the Baptist Faith and loved pitching horseshoes. He worked for Jerry Reid of Granite Falls in Reid’s Remodeling and for Fireball Painting and Cleaning as a painter. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Oliver is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Foster and husband Tim of Granite Falls; his brother, Freddie C. Oliver and wife Janice of Connelly Springs; two sisters, Shirley O. Hollar and husband Paul of Hudson and Evelyn Grindstaff and husband Aaron of Elizabethton, Tenn.; his special friend, Joyce Simpson and her son, Carl Duncan Jr., of Hickory; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Oliver of Morganton; five grandchildren, Randy, Jimmy, Mike, Scott and Kelly; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be gathering at Freddie Oliver’s home at 8024 Shamrock Village Avenue, Connelly Springs. The family will see friends from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Mackie-High Funeral Home. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, Tenn., on Thursday, May 5, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dean Livingston officiating.
