Zula E. Baird, 81, of Elizabethton, was escorted home by the Angels to be in the presence of the Lord on Monday, October 28, 2013, from Roan Highlands Nursing Home following an extended illness. Heaven is now brighter because of her light. Mrs. Baird was born in Washington County, Tennessee, and was a daughter of the late Rosa Hughes Cannon. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ray Baird; two sisters, Lee Tester and Anna Baird. Mrs. Baird was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church. She sang in the church choir, loved music, loved crossword puzzles and had the gift of hospitality. She was a Godly woman and a wonderful mother. Survivors include four daughters, Gloria Baird and husband, Dr. David Fenner, Roan Mountain, Teresa McCloud and Robin Smith, both of Elizabethton, and Julie Rickard and husband, Lynn, Kingston, TN; an adopted granddaughter, Adrian Baynard, Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The celebration of life service for Mrs. Baird will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Jeremy Rhoton, officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Mrs. Gloria Baird. Music will be under the direction of Jodi Howald. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Thursday. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 1, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Travis McCloud, Douglas McCloud, Riley Frazier, Dillon Frazier, Lynn Rickard, John Pipkin, Trey Spence, Nate Green and Janusz Pawlik. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Fenner and Terry Frazier. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at 10:15 AM at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, on Friday, to go in procession.
